As you may know, I have been sharing a weekly leadership tip almost every Thursday since the beginning of 2011. During this time of year, I traditionally miss a week over the holidays, so this will be my last Leadership Tip for 2022. The next tip comes your way January 5th, 2023.
At this time of year, I encourage you to follow this advice from Leopold O. Walder:
Learn from the past.
Enjoy the present.
Build for the future.
Leadership Tip
Reflect on the past and plan for the future while enjoying the present.
At least this is my plan during next week’s down week! I’ll take my own advice and reflect on the past, think about opportunities ahead, and map out the best path for my leadership development business—while enjoying the holidays.
To help with your reflection, I suggest asking yourself these questions:
If I had the chance to do 2022 over again, what would I do differently in 2023 to:
- Leverage the successes I had?
- Avoid the mistakes I made?
- Add even more value for my clients?
Addressing these questions will get you to think about what went well and what didn’t go well, plus it will help you identify what more you can do.
Then I suggest you transition to these three important questions:
- What actions can I take to build and strengthen my relationships?
- What actions can I take to become more productive?
- What actions will I take if business opportunities slow down?
To challenge yourself further, add your own questions.
Although taking time to reflect is important, don’t let it overwhelm you. Find a little quiet time each day, then focus on one question only, and you’ll be surprised how much you can accomplish over the holidays.
Enjoy your leadership journey and have a wonderfully reflective holiday season!
