This is a throwback tip of 3 – years ago. For my long-time followers, I think on occasion
a tip like this is a great reminder, so I hope you don’t mind me reintroducing it.
I’m not sure who first said the following, but I like the message.
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
I like it because it makes me think about what’s going on around me and where I’m headed.
Additionally, as a leadership coach it compels me to ask these questions:
What are you thinking about?
What are you talking about?
How are you spending your time?
My leadership tip this week is to challenge you to take a few minutes to answer these 3-questions.
If you are satisfied the answers are keeping you on a track of achieving your goals, helping you develop as an exceptional leader with unwavering character, then give yourself a high five.
If the answers are taking you where you know you shouldn’t go, then it’s time to re-group before you find yourself on the slippery slope of no return.
Take one more minute and think about the long list of business leaders, politicians and sports figures whose careers crashed and burned because they didn’t take the time to think about where they were really headed.
Don’t let this happen to you.
