We look at the calendar and realize the year is almost over.
Although we’ve accomplished a great deal, we’ve got so much more to do … but not enough time to do everything we want, so we ride it out.
Here’s a thought from the movie actor Bela Lugosi; “People, chained by monotony, afraid to think, clinging to certainties … they live like ants.”
Forget monotony and routine, now is the time we need revitalization and creativity to help us get through the year.
My leadership tip for you this week is for you to break your routine habits and inject some excitement into your leadership and into your organization.
Here are a few ideas to get you started:
Finish the year strong – introduce a 4th quarter fun and meaningful creativity challenge to your team
At your long range planning meeting – consider a third party to challenge your thinking and take you to a higher level … or bring a few high potential people in your organization to your planning meeting (regardless of their current position) … it would be great exposure for them and important for their growth and development.
At your budget meetings – in addition to establishing the most important financial or performance targets for your organization, think about establishing a few new and different measurements … something important but would be new, refreshing and fun.
Revitalize yourself and become more creative. Here are 7 – suggestions … I’m sure you can think of more:
Drive to the office a different way than you usually do
Hit the spa for a massage or sauna.
Go for a walk on the beach.
Go for a walk in the woods .
Listen to more music and less news.
Get your Holiday shopping done before Halloween.
Plan to be a unique and fun character on Halloween .
It doesn’t matter what you do … just don’t live like an ant … become an exceptional leader and revitalize yourself and enhance your creativity to close out the year in a meaningful way, while positioning for next year.
