Although we celebrate many traditions at work and at home throughout the year, this is the season in which tradition plays a huge role in our lives.
For example, I came across the Silent Night Celebration tradition of Taylor University. You absolutely must see this video of a long-standing tradition that’s truly fun and inspiring.
Apparently, every year on the Friday before final exams, Taylor students wearing pajamas or costumes remain quiet from the start of their team’s basketball game until the 10th point is scored. After that, the crowd erupts in one of college basketball’s most outrageous traditions. Fans later sing “Silent Night” together. Pretty special!
Leadership Tip
Introduce at least one new tradition into your organization or family that will get people excited for the New Year.
Your options are unlimited. You can start one that is company-related, season-related, industry-related, customer-related, volunteer-related, good-cause-related, family-related. Think of all the areas you could focus on; it’s unlimited.
If you believe you already have enough traditions in your family or organization, I challenge you to evaluate them and determine if any should be replaced with a vibrant new tradition.
Exceptional leaders find ways to create traditions that are fun, exciting, and memorable. Just ask the students at Taylor University!
Enjoy your leadership journey and have a wonderful holiday season. We’ll be back with more leadership tips in the New Year.
