Think about it; complacency, if not corrected can cause a myriad of problems for a leader. People problems, relationship problems, financial problems, safety problems, quality problems, customer satisfaction problems, market share problems or problems at home … the list can go on.
As leaders, we cannot afford to have a complacent organization or become complacent ourselves … just ask JP Morgan and all the others out there thinking ‘What’s the big deal, I’ve done this a million times before’ … or … ‘Not to worry, things are great.’
As leaders, we must remain focused and driven. We also need to pay attention to what’s going on around us – we can’t afford to take anything for granted.
My leadership tip for you this week is to rid your business and personal life of complacency. Here’s how to get started … ask yourself these 3 – questions:
- What have I been taking for granted at work lately?
- What does my organization take for granted?
- What have I been taking for granted at home lately?
Once you know the answer to these questions, I’m pretty sure that you’ll know what to do about it.
If you don’t, or aren’t sure, get some help because complacency will bite you like a crazed dog … and I know you won’t like that.
