Do you remember a Leadership Tip posted 11 weeks ago titled Quotes That Will Inspire You To Be A Better Leader? I received much positive feedback on its value from readers like you.
Since then, I came across this article The 1 Inspirational Quote Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos Has Read Every Day for Years. I encourage you to read the entire piece but, if you can’t, I’ve noted Mr. Bezos’s special quote here:
“Rarely have I seen a situation where doing less than the other guy is a good strategy.” – Jimmy Spithill, an America’s Cup-winning skipper and helmsman
Apparently, Mr. Bezos has posted this quote on his refrigerator door to remind him that, when he’s exhausted, “There’s always a little more left.”
Find the one quote that motivates you, then keep it visible as a reminder of what’s important to you.
Encourage others on your team to do the same.
If I were to narrow down my own favorite quotes to one, I’d pick this from the sixth president of the United States: “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” – John Quincy Adams
Adams’s quote is important to me because I’m dedicated to helping managers, supervisors, and executives become better leaders. My expertise includes coaching, mentoring, training, speaking, and writing about practical ways to become an exceptional leader. One example is an article published this week by Forbes. It’s called Three Strategies for Leaders Developing Leaders.
