Like many of you, I’m not a big fan of mediocrity.
I’ve provided many tips over the years on what you could do about mediocre performers should they ever creep into your organization. See leadership tips 20-24 in my 101 – Leadership Tips book.
However, I was real excited to read a recent article about different organizations like Kimberley Clark who are “managing out dead wood”. Read it here, you will see how some companies are beginning to change their previous stance on performance management approach – I like it.
My leadership tip for you this week is to take a stand against mediocrity. Work real hard towards fixing it or move quickly to replace it.
If you don’t, it may not bring you down, but it will slow you down.
You deserve the best available talent – don’t settle for less.
